This project is supported by the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science, and Resources through the Accelerating Commercialisation Program.
It features a 32kWhr energy storage capacity and has been customised to seamlessly integrate with the customer’s existing off-grid SMA solar and battery setup. The system powers the workshop shed with three phase power, along with the distant property and operates completely off-grid (without any connection to mains power, known as a Stand Alone Power System). Notably, this installation marks the first-ever commercial above-ground deployment of a mechanical battery using Amber Kinetics’ M32 long duration flywheel technology and Key Energy’s proprietary enclosure.
The installation process was streamlined, reducing the typical timeframe from two weeks to just 48 hours, supplemented by remote testing. The inclusion of the Amber Kinetics M32 Flywheel is designed to prolong the lifespan of the existing lithium-ion battery by mitigating the everyday usage as well as any abrupt energy draw from the customer’s load. It is also designed to cater for the next 20-30 years of the customers expected energy needs.
Located in Armidale, New South Wales, Australia, this project showcases our commitment to sustainable practices and renewable energy in regional and remote Australia. We invite you to watch a short video that highlights the installation process and its seamless integration.
